HISTORY

As people started moving out to the suburbs, and the number of Catholics settled beyond Sanganur Pallam (Goundampalayam) increased a small house was rented near the housing board colony in 1973 and a priest from Bishop’s House was going there for Sunday mass. Then later it became a substation of NGGO Colony, and 2.61 acres of land was bought by Bishop Visuvasam, for the Church and School through the efforts of Fr. Maria Oubagara Xavier, then Parish Priest of N.G.G.O. Colony; first an English medium school was started and Sunday Mass was celebrated in the school. The new spacious church in honour of St. John Bosco was constructed by Fr. F.M. Antonymuthu and consecrated by Bishop Ambrose on 1st May 1995. It became an independent parish in 1997. A beautiful Grotto of Our Lady of Velankanni and oi Infant Jesus were built in 2001 and 2002 by Fr. George Dhanasekhar. Fr. Durai Willam constructed a beautiful bell-tower and a Grotto for our lady of Lourdes and they were blessed by Bishop Thomas Aquinas in the year 2005

A nursery school was started by Fr. Ubagaram Maria Xaviet and a school building was constructed. Fr. F.M. Anthonimuthu raised it into a Matriculation High School. Fr. John Bosco raiseH it into a Higher Secondary School and built an additional two- storied building with lab facilities.

The Sallesians of John Bosco bought a large plot of land al Vellakinar through the help of the Capuchins of Gandhipuram deep in the interior. They wanted to start an industrial trainin school for the poor. Since it was too inaccessible the institutior didn’t flourish. So they converted it into the house for theii Aspirants.
